PURPOSE: A catalyst for converting sugar to sugar alcohols by catalytic hydrogenation, a preparation method of the same, and a preparation method of the sugar alcohols using the same are provided to improve the yield of the sugar alcohols by using a ruthenium boron-based catalyst.;CONSTITUTION: A catalyst for converting sugar to sugar alcohols carries ruthenium boron in a carrier. The carrier is one or the mixture of silica, alumina, and titania. The content of the ruthenium is in a range between 0.5 and 15weight% based on the total weight of the catalyst. A preparation method of the catalyst includes the following: the selected carrier is treated with the solution of a ruthenium compound, and the treated product is dried at a temperature between 60 and 100 deg C; solid products are obtained and are reduced at a temperature between 10 and 35 deg C by adding an alkaline solution containing potassium borohydride; and the resultant product is filtered and washed to obtain a catalyst carrying ruthenium boron.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2013
