PURPOSE: A polymer electrolyte membrane is provided to ensure excellent hydrogen ion conductivity, to improve water absorption, methanol permeation, and performance of a membrane-electrode assembly. CONSTITUTION: A polymer electrolyte membrane includes a proton conducting copolymer represented by chemical formula 1. The hydrogen ion conductivity of the polymer electrolyte membrane is 0.100 S/cm or more and the thickness is 40-80 micron. A method for improving physical properties of the polymer electrolyte membrane comprises the steps of: preparing hydrogen ion conductive copolymers represented by chemical formula 1; casting the solution in which the hydrogen ion conductive copolymers are dissolved in an organic solvent; and evaporating and drying the organic solvent.
