The present invention is a water-soluble conjugated polymer having ionic groups , with the interaction of the mercury ions and thymine water-soluble conjugated polymer- mercury - thymine complexes , their preparation and relates to a method for selective detection of mercury ions in an aqueous solution using the same , and more particularly to a water-soluble fluorescent conjugated polymer compound having an ionic group , a mercury ion , and thymine form a complex and relates to a fluorescence sensor which , depending on the concentration of mercury ions in the fluorescent color change of the polymer compound .
