FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an oil medium which is suitable for producing dimethyl ether and/or methanol which is used in a synthesis reaction with a suspended layer as a medium which contains a basic component in form of a branched saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon containing 16-50 carbon atoms, 1-7 tertiary carbon atoms, 0 quaternary carbon atoms and 1-16 carbon atoms in branched chains bonded with tertiary carbon atoms; wherein at least one tertiary carbon atom is bonded with hydrocarbon chains with length of 4 or more carbon atoms, lying in three directions.
