Use of a material (I) based on a mixed oxyhydride of at least one rare earth metal and at least one metal element other than zirconium and a rare earth metal, to catalyze a partial oxidation reaction of an alkane in a mixture of hydrogen (H 2) and carbon monoxide (CO) at a temperature below 200[deg] C, is claimed.
