The method involves measuring elastic return torque exerted by an elastic unit of a component e.g. hairspring, of a sub-assembly on another component e.g. balance, of the sub-assembly about a pivoting axis. Inertia of the latter component is measured and corrected. The return torque of the former component is corrected by removal of material, addition of material, displacement of material and/or local or complete heat treatment.
