The method involves measuring infrared radiation emitted by a patient body by a measuring device, where the measuring device covers a surface area of the body. Variable positioning of the measuring device is adjusted based on the surface area of the body. Measurement values are represented on a picture screen by the measurement device. Upper or lower temperature level of threshold values is entered in the measuring device. An optical and/or acoustic signal is used to inform the threshold values, when the threshold values are reached at certain level. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting and measuring an infrared radiation level of a patient.
