The method involves transporting a material web on a rotating application roller (8) immersed in a liquor bowl (1) containing liquor, in order to apply liquor on the material web. The surface of the application roller is tempered. The application roller is passed through a tempering medium which is fed over a feed line and is discharged over a return line. Water is used as tempering medium. The tempering medium is conducted in counter current process by the application roller. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing the material web finishing method.
