The device (1) has an inner wall (2) whose inner surface (3) is engaged with an outer surface of a cylinder liner in a form-fit manner. An interstice (5) of a coolant is formed between the inner wall and an outer wall (4). Thickness of the inner wall increases from a front end (6) of the device to another front end (7) of the device. The thickness of the inner wall is same or different in a sectional plane between the former end and the latter end along a radial orientation, where the sectional plane is vertical to a longitudinal axis (22) of the cylinder liner. An independent claim is also included for a cylinder liner of a cylinder for an engine, comprising a cylinder liner wall.
