The present invention relates to a method for producing hydrogen chloride HCl or an aqueous solution thereof using a first electrolyte E1, the first electrolyte E1 containing chloride ions Cl-; b) carrying out an electrodialysis, the first electrolyte E1 being subjected to a cathodic reduction, from which a catholyte K results, the concentration of chloride ions Cl− decreasing in the first electrolyte E1, the concentration of hydroxide ions OH− increasing in the first electrolyte E1, and producing a product P in the form of hydrogen chloride HCl or an aqueous solution thereof; c) processing at least a portion of the catholyte K, from which the first electrolyte E1 results, using a salt-containing raw water RW, the concentration of chloride ions Cl– increasing in the catholyte K, and the concentration of hydroxide ions OH– decreasing in the catholyte K; and d) at least partially reusing the catholyte K processed after step c) as the first electrolyte E1 in step b).
