The optical referencing method involves detecting medical image data by an image data acquisition device (10). A camera system (12) is provided with hybrid marker system, which has an active marker (M-a), a passive marker (M-p) and a light signal sensor. The passive marker is provided in reciprocal action such that the acquisition image data is referred to a spatial position of the image data acquisition device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an optical referencing system for referencing medical image data; and (2) a support for image data acquisition device for referencing acquisition image data.
