The device (1) has a set of measuring panels (E1a, E1b, E2) radiating laser beams, arranged parallel to each other and formed on detected height-or width mass of a side surface of cuboid-shaped objects (3). The measuring panels determine intersection lines of the measuring panels with the side surface of the cuboid-shaped objects by received reflections and determine ends of the intersection lines. The mass of the side surface of the objects is calculated by data of the intersection lines. The measuring panels are arranged on the side surface of the cuboid-shaped objects. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring a mass of cuboid-shaped objects with a hand-held device.
