The device has a magnetic field unit (10) for adjusting reference value provided magnetic flux in operating mode. A mechanical adjustable actuator system (11) comprises an actuating element (12) moving between decoupled effective directions to adjust the reference value. An adjusting element (16) i.e. spring element, is rotatably connected to the actuating element and axially arranged against the actuating element. A setting unit (25) is utilized for active setting of the magnetic flux, and another setting unit (26) provided for passive setting of the magnetic flux. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a locking device for a combustion engine.
