Device comprises a block (4) made of hydrophobic mineral fiber, through which water-containing fuel or fuel-containing water is passed or in which it is automatically absorbed by the mineral fibers of the fiber, where the water is separated from the fuel by the hydrophobization of the mineral fibers, and is deposited preferably on the the outer surface of the block. An independent claim is also included for separating water and fuel, comprising passing the water-containing fuel or fuel-containing water through a block made of hydrophobic mineral fiber and/or automatically absorbing in the block by the mineral fibers of the fuel, where the water is separated from the fuel by the hydrophobization of mineral fibers, and is deposited preferably on the outer surface of the block.
