The bearing has multiple cavities arranged in a hydrostatic contact zone along a circumferential direction, where the contact zone is formed between a housing (9) and a roller bearing outer ring (1). The cavities are supplied with hydrostatic medium via a supply system. A monitoring device is arranged at the system to monitor pressure of medium. The cavities are designed as oil pockets (20), and extend over a circumferential angle. The medium is gas or fluid-type lubricant i.e. oil. The device is designed as a fast responding hydraulic or pneumatic pressure sensors (5) or piezo sensors. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring condition of a roller bearing that is hydrostatically supported in a housing.
