摘要

The primary achievement of this phase of the study is the successful incorporation of a more sophisticated and realistic representation of the bearing hydrostatic force over that presented in the reference. This hydrostatic force representation fully considers pressure drops through the compensating orifices, including inertial pressure drops under dynamic loading conditions. The results confirm the hypothesis that these inertial pressure drops through the orifices have an important influence on the bearing phase angle vs speed characteristic. Furthermore, this inertia effect provides bearing stability under conditions of dynamic loading, so orifice flow inertia must not be neglected in the analysis of high speed bearings.
