The method involves fixing a mass (3) i.e. lift car, according to measurement of rope force (S1), and determining tangential force of a traction sheave (2) based on the rope force and a parameter of a lift system. A maximum load removal force is determined, and brought into a part (5.1) of a driving rope (5) of the lift system. A difference between the rope force and load removal force is measured at the part of the rope, and a test statement is generated. Oscillation produced by force in the part of the rope is detected. An independent claim is also included for a process monitoring system comprising a lift system.
