The device (1) has a reflector box (2) with a reflecting opaque rear wall (21) and a transparent front side (22) opposite to the wall. Electrical operable light sources e.g. LEDs (3), are attached along a longitudinal side (23) of the box. Distance (D) between the front side and the wall in a region (II) away from the longitudinal side is smaller than in another region (I) close to the longitudinal side. Optical axes (A) of the sources are oriented diagonal to the front side. A light exit surface of the sources is positioned at half of the distance between the front side and the rear wall.
