The method involves determining rolling resistance of tires (2) from force equilibrium of a traveling vehicle (1). Unknown parameters in the equilibrium of force equation are determined by using a statistical-numerical estimation process. The average resistance value over a set of travels is determined to reduce environment and road influences. Air resistance of the vehicle is determined to be supplementary to the tire resistance from the force equilibrium. A creeping tire pressure loss is recognized in an indirect measuring tire pressure control system. An independent claim is also included for a motor car control apparatus.
