Regenerating hydrogenation catalysts containing at least one of the metals including copper, chromium and/or nickel as active components, comprises: (a) washing the catalysts used in a first process step with an organic solvent; (b) drying the washed catalysts at temperature of 80-140[deg] C; and (c) subsequently calcining the dried catalysts at temperature of 400-550[deg] C.
