The device has a sliding control element (12) and a hob base unit (11), where the sliding control element moves relative to a cooking zone (14) from which the sliding control element is removed without tools. A large portion of the sliding control element is arranged in equal to height of a cook zone surface area (16) during functionally coupled operating mode. The sliding control element is partly arranged at a front edge (28) of a hob during the operating mode. An actuator unit is intended to move the shift control element relative to the cooking zone. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a hob.
