The respirator has a three or two way valve provided with three terminals and two valve positions. The former terminal of the three or two way valve is provided with a junction placed in direction of flow of inhaled gas before a pressure source (3) respectively on a low pressure side of an inspiration path. The third terminal of the three or two way valve is pneumatically coupled with an expiration valve (5). A single ultrasonic sensor (15) is provided for detection of oxygen content and carbon di-oxide content. An independent claim is also included for a method for regulating a respirator, particularly emergency respirator.
