The method involves passing current (I) through an upper switch (US) and a down switch (DS), where the switches automatically open when the current exceeds a preset current threshold value such as over- and/or a short-circuit current. A preset current or voltage level is produced by a current and/or voltage source, and a disabling signal is produced such that the down switch changes the current or voltage level to another current or voltage level. A preset error action is executed during erroneous current or voltage level. An independent claim is also included for a switch arrangement comprising an upper switch and a down switch.
