The method involves conveying ambient air trough a cooling jacket (21) during operation of a compressor (19), where the ambient air is sucked from an outer side of an engine compartment. An air conveyor (18) is operated in different operating modes, and air is supplied to a burner (11) in a burner air conveyor mode. The compressor is operatively driven in a cooling mode without counter pressure. The conveyor is operated in the cooling mode before operation of the conveyor in the air conveyor mode and until an electric motor (20) is significantly cooled against temperature at the compartment. An independent claim is also included for a device for supplying air to a burner pressurized with an outlet of an exhaust gas section of an internal combustion engine in flow direction of exhaust gas before a cleaning device.
