The detent has a position unit comprising a friction shoe (8) and connectable with a steering column. A return spring element is coupled with a carry-unit-side movable tooth lath (12) over a resilient coupling element. The shoe includes a gearing (13) corresponding to the tooth lath. The tooth lath is back and forth movable with the spring element opposite to the gearing between engaging- and non-engaging positions, where the non-engaging position corresponds to a released relative position of the shoe, and the engaging position corresponds to a clamped relative position of the shoe.
