The method involves connecting a positive pole and a negative pole of a direct current (DC) power source (2a) with a data acquisition device (4a). The poles are repeatedly interconnected over a power transistor (12) to produce a sequence of negative current pulses containing operational parameters. The current pulses are detected by an uncoupling unit (22) of an evaluation unit (18) inductively or using a Hall sensor, and the current pulses are converted into a sequence of voltage pulses containing momentary operation data of the source, where the voltage pulses are digitally reprocessed. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for monitoring operational parameters of a DC power source comprising a data acquisition device.
