The method involves heating the back portion of the book cover (19) substantially by condensation of water vapor. The slightly superheated water vapor is supplied to the paperboard of the book back insert through openings in the upper contact surface. The condensation heat is released on the back insert. An independent claim is also included for a device for preforming back portion of a book cover.
