The device (1) has periodically harvested aquatic culture surfaces created in flat troughs or channels and arranged in layers stacked one above the other. The layers form a stepped layer arrangement (2) in form of an amphitheater-configuration and are arranged around an inner halation surface (3) in a circular- or ellipsoidal shape. A transparent hermetically closed outer shell surrounds the layer arrangement. Gaseous carbon dioxide is introducible into the halation surface via a pipe system, where the carbon dioxide is dissolved in water as hydrogen carbonate. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing aquatic biomass.
