The method involves stimulating a surface plate by a vibration exciter (11) i.e. piezoelectric vibration exciter, where an oscillation interval is freely selectable in a range from hours to kilohertz. The plate is illuminated by bundled light beams (20, 21). Reflected light beams (22, 23) are forwarded to position-sensitive detectors (18, 19). Deflection of the plate is determined by beam angle of the reflected light beams. The determined positional data of measuring elements (13, 14) is forwarded to a microprocessor unit for evaluation, monitoring and visualization purposes. The measuring elements are designed as metal plates and spring-elastic steel tongues. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring viscosity of fluid.
