The method involves firmly setting reference objects (R1-R4) in a test station, and positioning an insertable reference device (4) in the test station. A uniform measuring position-coordinate system is defined by the entire reference objects. The measuring position-coordinate system is established in a measuring arrangement of body objects (K1, K2) based on information. The coordinate system is disposed for an image recording device (2) e.g. camera, and/or a measuring unit (1) to determine chassis data of an evaluation unit independent of the reference objects. An independent claim is also included for a chassis measuring device for executing a method for measuring chassis of a motor vehicle.
