The apparatus (1) has a radiation source (10) i.e. metal vapor high-pressure lamp, emitting electromagnetic beams (11) on a solar module (30) to be tested. A matrix element such as planar surface element (14) i.e. LCD surface element, is connected with a processing unit (22) i.e. portable personal computer. Another matrix element (32) activates or deactivates a control signal in a surface plane, so that the electromagnetic beams strike the solar module based on the control signal. The processing unit detects a parameter of the solar module based on the control signal. The parameter comprises solar cell temperature. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing a solar module.
