The system (1) has a portable data carrier (7) including an integrated semiconductor chip and mechanically and removably fixed at an input unit carrier (1') i.e. card-shaped form adapter. The input unit carrier comprises an input unit e.g. pressure-sensitive input field (5), for detecting user input, and the chip comprises an evaluation unit for evaluating the input and a storage region for storing the input. The data carrier is formed as a mini-subscriber identity module (SIM) card, plug-in card or micro-SIM card or Universal Serial Bustoken or mass storage card. The input unit is formed as a key field. An independent claim is also included for a method for authenticating a user.
