The method involves providing image data that represents a multi-dimensional image display of a course of nerves in an intriguing region at human or animal body (4). Another image data is provided for representing a multidimensional video recording of the intriguing region. An assignment between the image data is determined by reference pixels in the image display. Representations of a section of the image display and the video recording are overlapped on an image output device (2) of a surgical microscope according to specific assignment of the reference pixels.
