The method involves determining a current three dimensional position of a point of a surgical instrument from a digitized two dimensional image of a patient and a three dimensional model of a vascular system of the patient. The determination is a function of a previous position of the point in the model and the blood vessels position represented in the model. An image representing the point in the current position is displayed. An independent claim is also included for a medical imaging assembly permitting display of the position of a surgical instrument point located in a vascular system of a patient.
