The method involves switching one of loads (52, 54) with one of relays (56, 60) that are arranged in series. The relays are arranged in a switching arrangement (50) such that the relays are attached to the loads independent of the arrangement of the relays in the switching arrangement and depending on frequency of switching processes and a type of the loads. Time constants of the loads to be switched are considered. A switching strategy is selected depending on a cumulative switching load value. Load of the individual relay is distributed to different relays. An independent claim is also included for a switching arrangement for switching a number of loads.
