The apparatus has an exhaust gas after-treatment device (60) e.g. particulate filter, arranged in an exhaust line (20). A burner (30) increases exhaust gas temperature in the exhaust line in effluent stream direction before the exhaust gas after-treatment device. The exhaust line comprises a metering unit (50) that is arranged in the effluent stream direction before the exhaust gas after-treatment device for dosing medium e.g. fuel or aqueous urea solutions, to support exhaust gas post-treatment. Burner gas of the burner is supplied asymmetrically to a central axis (28) of the exhaust line.
