The box i.e. automated parking brake (APB)-keyboard (100), has an illumination device (101) i.e. lamp, for illuminating the box, and a switching device (102) for indicating a switching status of the box. A connection device (104) i.e. peripheral sensor interface, attaches an excitation unit (103), the illumination device and the switching device to a control device. The excitation unit generates an activation signal for the control device, where the connection device includes two connecting lines (105', 105'') i.e. signal lines such as twisted pair cables or shielded twisted pair cables. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a control box (2) a control device comprising a lighting control device for outputting a lighting signal (3) a method for exciting a control device (4) a switching system comprising a control box connected with a control device over harness.
