The switchable element (1) comprises a housing (4), which is arranged in a guide bore of the internal combustion engine, in which an inner element (6) runs in a bore hole (5) in an axially movable manner. A coupling unit (7) is provided, which comprises a coupling piston (9) fitting in a cross-hole (8) of the inner element. The coupling piston is provided with an insertion opening (17) in the housing for a measuring probe (18) or a sensor (19), which intersects the insertion opening of a pressure chamber (15) before the coupling piston. An independent claim is also included for a method for functional testing of a coupling unit of a switchable element.
