The plug (1) has an electrode (2) made of nickel and silicon, a base component (3) made of C10C type steel, and a welded joint (4) provided between the electrode and the base component. The electrode and the base component form a peltier element. The electrode material is formed without using aluminum, aluminum compounds, chromium, chromium compounds, iron and/or iron compounds. The electrode material comprises 0.75 weight percent and 0.10 weight percent of copper and yttrium, respectively. The electrode is welded on a spark plug housing or a pin i.e. precious metal pin. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a spark plug.
