The inspection unit has a shut-off device for closing individual pipe sections and a supply conduit. The shut-off device is provided at a distance from swingably connected modules (2, 3, 4) and placed on the supply conduit. A control device enables centered positioning of the modules in a pipe. Each module includes the control device and three joint levers (7a) spreadable from the respective modules. A spreading lever (7b) is articulated in one of the joint levers and spaced at a distance from the ends of the respective joint lever. The shut-off device is made of a resilient material such as rubber or elastic plastic.
