Producing brown coal coke (1), comprises drying (3) raw brown coal (2), carbonizing (5) the dried brown coal, and storing the energy-rich gas (7) produced during the carbonization, in a gas reservoir. An independent claim is also included for a system for producing brown coal coke, comprising a device for drying the raw brown coal to a water content of 10-20 wt.%, a device for carbonization the dried brown coal, and a reservoir for the energy-rich gas obtained during the carbonization.
