The device has multi function keys (3,4) or tip fields to which a particular finger of the user is uniquely assigned, for inputting a set of control signals or for dividing characters into subsets of a two-dimensional table or a two-dimensional scheme. The table or scheme is activated by entering an appropriate input signal. The number of control signals or characters in a group number of keys or tip fields, is matched with dedicated fingers. Buttons or jog fields are assigned with control signals corresponding to currently selected group of control signals.
