Situation-dependent method for recognition of contact of steering wheel by driver, by e.g. lane departure warning system of motor car, involves triggering action upon reaching counter end value before detection of contact of wheel
The method involves performing a counting operation until obtaining a counter end value by a counter (10), and interrupting the counting operation when a contact of a steering wheel by a driver of a motor car is detected. Current driving conditions are classified, and the counter end value is defined based on the classification. Extracted features are evaluated and/or weighted based on the conditions. An action for switching off an automatic function of a driver assistance system (1) is triggered upon reaching the value before detection of contact of the steering wheel by the driver. The classification of the current driving conditions is determined by using road curvature (5) and/or slope, vehicle speed (4), predictive route data, kinematic inputs of a vehicle, suspension information and tire information. An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance system.
