The method comprises filling a first material to be melted in an induction furnace (2) to a first level below a maximum filling level of a crucible (3) and/or below an upper edge of a coil (4) surrounding the crucible, and refilling a second material to be melted in dependence on the power consumption of the furnace and/or in dependence on the temperature of the already filled material and/or as a function of variables, from which the power consumption of the furnace or the temperature of the already filled material is calculated. The step of refilling the further material takes place: when the electric power consumption decreases and/or when the electrical power consumption decreases below a predetermined or predeterminable first power value and/or when the temperature of the already filled material exceeds the predefined or predefinable temperature and/or when the temperature of the already filled material exceeds its Curie temperature; in a continuous manner such that the electrical power consumption of furnace is always above the predetermined power value and/or such that the electrical power consumption of the furnace is always equal to the rated power of the furnace; and continuously or in a step wise manner until the total quantity of the material to be melted is filled and/or up to the maximum filling level of the furnace is reached and/or until the free crucible volume is exhausted over the filled melt and/or until reaching a sufficient electromagnetic coupling due to the amount of the already melted material.
