The body has a control chamber provided between two planar surfaces of a spanner head (2). A spring element and a pressing element of a locking pawl (5) are received in a recess, where the locking pawl is triangularly arranged in the control chamber for locking a ratchet. A slot is provided between one of the planar surfaces and the recess and/or between the other surface and the recess, where size of the slot is smaller than that of the spring element and the pressing element. The recess is formed by portions of the slot. An independent claim is also included for a method for forming a recess in a spanner body.
