The roof lighting (2) has a coupling area for illuminating a vehicle interior, where the roof lighting is extended in the vehicle over a large part of the surface of a vehicle roof (1). An illumination unit is provided with a light source (7) for generating the light and a light conductor (6a,6b,6c), in which the light is coupled. The light conductor is formed to decouple the light in the coupling area. The roof lighting has multiple segments (5a,5b,5c) which are illuminated from one another in a selective and independent manner. An independent claim is included for a method for processing the roof lighting in vehicle.
