Catalyst material comprises titanium dioxide-silicon dioxide in a particle form with an alkali content of less than 300 ppm and with a specific surface area of 50-300 m 2/g, where the specific surface area is reduced to a maximum of 30%, on heating for 50 hours at 650[deg] C. An independent claim is also included for producing the low-alkali catalyst material comprising reacting a titanium-containing solution where the concentration of dissolved titanium is equivalent to 10-250 g of titanium dioxide per liter of solution, and a low-alkali solution of hydrated precursors of one or more silicon-oxygen-compounds in the presence of ammonia, filtering, washing, subjecting to thermal treatment and drying.
