The device (10a) has two filter sections (11) arranged perpendicular to a beam direction (13) and made from different materials e.g. aluminum and/or copper and/or titanium and/or gallium and/or tin, with different atomic numbers or effective atomic numbers. A material with a higher atomic number is passed earlier by an X-ray than a material with a lower atomic number. The materials are arranged such that the atomic number of the materials drops along the direction. The sections are designed as a gallium layer (14), a copper layer (15) and a titanium layer (16) of multilayer structure (12).
