The method involves controlling rotational speed and/or torque of a drive unit in motor vehicle with an automatic clutch and/or an automated transmission, when a drivetrain of the motor vehicle is operated for a referencing process or for balancing a hydraulic circuit. The rotational speed of the drive unit is controlled to a preset value. Operation of the drivetrain is enabled independent of the driver's request.
