Liquid jet scalpel for use with medical robot for performing minimally invasive surgery on thorax of patient in surgical site, has nozzle for outputting liquid jet, and functional end effector for manipulating tissue in surgical site
The scalpel (10) has a nozzle (14) for outputting liquid jet i.e. water jet. A functional end effector (20) manipulates tissue in a surgical site. The effector is designed as a gripper, scissors and a stapler with or without integrated mono or bipolar electrocautery. A suction apparatus (22) is arranged at a distal end to suck the liquid and the replaced tissue from the site. The nozzle and the apparatus are arranged coaxial to each other and rotationally symmetrically formed such that a joint (16) e.g. ball-and-socket joint, has a degree of freedom, where the nozzle is secured through joint.
